Uccello del Tuono Bordeaux

This is a cover for an imaginary Italo-Disco album. "Uccello del Tuono Bordeaux" translates to "Burgundy Thunderbird" or more literally, "Burgundy Bird of Thunder".

It’s a combination of photomontage and digital graphics based on an old magazine advertisement for a 1974 Ford Thunderbird Burgundy Special Edition. I first saw this advertisement in an old issue of National Geographic I found in my middle school science classroom. I just randomly picked the magazine up one day as material for our silent reading time. Even though it was older than me, it gave me a strong feeling of nostalgia.

I took the magazine home, read all of the articles, and examined all of the advertisements. This one stuck out to me in particular. I loved the ostentatious budget luxury and deep crimson colors. I imagined the car as a retro-futurist spaceship with stars and galaxies outside the windows.

All this time, I kept this advertisement in the back of my head, wanting to return to it to create a collage. That’s my uninteresting story of how I came to make this piece of art. Thank you for attending my TEDx talk.
