This is a concept for the cover of a local Portland alternative weekly newspaper. I changed the newspaper's name to a made up alt weekly to avoid copyright issues.

The article that the cover is based on described historical maps of Oregon, with absurd errors (only separated from Japan by a thin strait) and some surprisingly accurate details (The Juan de Fuca Pillar). I took the concept of an imaginary Oregon further by placing the landscape on top of a person's head and adding anthropomorphic beavers.

With a vintage eye-catching color palette and surrealist illustration, this image makes a great souvenir for someone visiting Oregon for their first time, as well a nice piece for a native Oregonian, or simply a fan of humorous retro cartoon art.
