North Cascades National Park Patch

I designed this patch and put it on a cap for my partner, Alison’s, birthday. She wanted a National Park cap and we had recently visited the North Cascades. There aren’t many hats (or much merchandise in general) available for North Cascades National Park so I wanted to make my own. It has a retro look accentuated by the color palette and font choices (Americana and Eurostile Extended).

In the center of the badge, you can see the “milky-turquoise” colored water of Diablo Lake. From the National Park Service’s website: “In summer, the distinctive turquoise color of the lake is the result of suspended fine rock particles refracting sunlight. These rock particles, called glacial flour, enter the lake when rock from the surrounding mountains is eroded by ice and flows into the water through glacial streams.”

The hat mock-ups are digital renders.
